A new gymnasium and turf soccer field are now available for the youth of Westside.

After more than two years of fundraising and two more years of construction, The Salvation Army of Long Beach opened the $ 8.5 million project at its Spring Street and Long Beach Boulevard campuses. In the process, the center became a Red Shield Center – the Donald & Priscilla Hunt Red Shield Community Center, to be exact.

Longtime Salvation Army supporter Priscilla Hunt donated $ 5 million to the center through the Donald Hunt Foundation. She was on site Wednesday morning, November 17, for a groundbreaking ceremony that included local dignitaries and senior officials from the Salvation Army.
