Time to give Lower Soccer Field a real name – The Daily Evergreen

The team attracts a large number of fans, it is time that the name reflects it

Martin Stadium, Beasley Coliseum, Lower Football Ground? What happened there, WSU? The No.21 team in the country deserves a better name for their home ground, especially because the team holds a 63% winning stat at home.

The WSU Athletics website states that the lower football field has been home to Coug football since the program began in 1989. Yet, unlike other teams, the football field’s name does not invoke a donor or former major. Cougar.

Beasley Coliseum wasn’t always called that. At its inception, it was named the Washington State University Performing Arts Coliseum, but that name lasted only the first eight years before being renamed in honor of longtime professor Wallis Beasley.

So why not rename the Lower Soccer Field? It could be named after a corporate sponsor or a private donor, as many stadiums are. Or better yet, it could be named after someone who made history at WSU.

Here are some great Cougars whose name the field might bear.

I would like the lower football ground to be renamed after Kiersten Dallstream. The WSU graduate was a member of the team from 2006 to 2009. Dallstream is still on many lists of school records, including fourth all-time in goals with 30, assists with 16, points with 76, fifth in shots with 278 and game-winning goals with seven.

Dallstream made a career out of soccer after graduation and was selected ninth overall in the Women’s Pro Soccer Draft by the Los Angeles Sol. After the WPS shut down, Dallstream joined Seattle Reign for the inaugural season of the National Women’s Soccer League, where she still plays.

Kym Lynass, who was a member of the team from 1990 to 1993, would be another Cougar who would be honored by renaming Lower Soccer Field. She is first all-time in goals with 83, points with 177, game-winning goals with 23 and multi-goal games with 22.

Or we could always wait a few years and name him after Ella Dederick, as the redshirt senior is already in the top 10 for wins, winning percentage and shutouts.

I think we should rename the football ground because the No. 21 team in the country deserves to play in a place that matches their status.
