Take action on the soccer field

Heart of the City announces its first “Spring Into Action Soccer Tournament”, a one-day event for regional recreational teams to play against other recreational teams on Sunday, May 1 at Waukegan Sports Park. Funds raised from the tournament will go to Heart of the City’s youth soccer and education programs.

The tournament is open to girls, boys and mixed teams playing in the U8, U10, U12 and U14 age groups. Teams will have the chance to win trophies and medals in their divisions. All teams are guaranteed three games in the tournament.

“We are truly looking forward to providing a top quality recreational football tournament for youth in northern Illinois and surrounding areas,” said Dean Smith, Athletic Director of Heart of the City. “Our inaugural tournament is a great opportunity to bring recreational soccer organizations and communities together for an exciting one-day event.”

Heart of the City programs serve more than 500 youth from underresourced communities through after-school, recreational, and traveling soccer teams. With an accessible soccer program that removes financial barriers to playing sports and a youth development pathway, student-athletes gain opportunities and life skills to see their future and score goals on and off the field. ground.

Spring tournament will raise much-needed funds for Heart of the City’s soccer and education programs and help marginalized student-athletes gain knowledge and confidence that will help them succeed and create themselves a positive future.

“We are proud to be partners with Heart of the City and honored to be the host site for their spring tournament,” said Jay Lerner, executive director of the Waukegan Park District. “Heart of City provides excellent training and life skills to its football players. We look forward to many years of partnership.”

Registration is now open until April 10. The cost per team to participate is $200. Early bird and multi-team discounts are available. More details, including registration, are available at www.heartofthecitysports.org/2022-spring-into-action-tournament.
