Saint-Marc leads Division II football rankings as postseason football and field hockey tournaments set
Saint-Marc soccer leads Catholic schools in the DIAA soccer and field hockey tournaments, the brackets of which were unveiled on November 5.
Saint-Marc finished the season 13-2, with losses to Division I powerhouses Salesianum and Charter School of Wilmington. They opened the season with an eight-game winning streak. They beat the other Division II tournament teams Delaware Military Academy, Brandywine, Archmere, Newark Charter and McKean, as well as Division I participant Delcastle.
The Spartans will host Newark Charter winner No.9 at No.8 Brandywine on November 13 at 11 a.m. The team is looking for the 12e state championship and first since 2001.
Archmere, who enters as the seventh seed, joins them in the Division II realm. The Penguins, Division II champions two seasons ago, finished the season at 10-5, although they have won seven of their last eight games after starting season 3-4. They have played a tough schedule that includes Division I contenders Wilmington Charter and Salesianum.
Archmere opens the game at Abessinio Stadium in Wilmington on November 9 at 6 p.m. against Sussex Academy on 10e seed. The winner will visit Caravelle n Â° 2 on November 13 at 5 p.m.
Salesianum will be looking to regain their state championship in the Division I field. The Sals are ranked third in the eight-team field. They finished the season 11-4, but they haven’t lost to any opponent from Delaware.
Sallies, who lost last year’s final on penalties to Appoquinimink, will start playing on 10 November at Abessinio Stadium against sixth seed Delcastle. The winner of this match shows up to meet the winner of Appo # 7 at Wilmington Charter # 2 on November 16 or 17 at a location and at a time to be determined.
The soccer championships will be played on November 20 at Dover High School. The times have not been communicated.
Three Catholic schools are competing for the two DIAA State Field Hockey Championships. In Division I, Padua won the seventh seed out of the eight teams. They will travel to Wilmington Charter on November 11 at 2 p.m., the winner will then play No.6 Appoquinimink or No.3 Smyrna on November 16 at 7 p.m. at DE Turf in Frederica.
The Pandas finished the regular season 7-7-1, with the teams losing seven in the Division I or Division II tournament. They faced Wilmington Charter on October 4, losing 3-2. Padua played the seed of the two divisions, Cape Henlopen and Delmar.
In Division II, Archmere is the second seed after setting up a 12-3 season. The Auks won the Diamond State Athletic Conference with season-ending victories over Newark Charter and Wilmington Charter, both of whom play in the playoffs. Two of their losses came to teams in the Division I tournament, and the other to Caravel, which is in the area of ââDivision II.
Archmere received a first round pass and will welcome the winner from St. Mark’s to Lake Forest. The Auks beat Saint-Marc, 2-0, in September. The opening of the Penguins tournament will take place on November 13 at 11 a.m.
The Spartans are the 10e seeded in Division II with a 9-5-1 record. Four of those losses came at the hands of tournament teams. As mentioned, they will travel to the seventh seed, Lake Forest, on November 9 at 2 p.m. ET. The winner will visit Archmere.
The State Field Hockey Championships will be held on November 20 at Dover High School. The Division I final is scheduled to start at 11:30 a.m., followed by the Division II at 3 p.m. In Division I, Cape Henlopen has won all four Division I titles and Delmar has won all four Division II titles since the sport moved to two divisions in 2017. Delmar won the last one division final, in 2016, and Cape had won five straight games before that.
