Firuza Sharipova handed Ireland’s Katie Taylor a football during today’s weigh-in ahead of their blockbuster fight at Liverpool on Saturday.
Taylor is fighting to defend his undisputed world lightweight titles.
Both fighters came in just under the 135-pound limit.
Taylor weighing in at 134 and 11 ounces and Sharipova at 134 and four.
The Bray woman is looking to go (20-0) after beating Natasha Jonas and Jennifer Han earlier this year.
In a strange interaction, the Kazakh fighter presented Taylor with a Euro 2020 soccer ball.
If this was an attempt at mind games, it certainly seemed like an odd direction to take as the former Republic of Ireland football international looked delighted with the spectacle.
Taylor made 11 appearances for Ireland and scored twice between 2006 and 2009, with his last game coming against tomorrow night’s opponents home country Kazakhstan.
Even though it’s only a mandatory challenge for her WBA belt, Taylor has put all five of her belts on the line against the 27-year-old fighter who is a national treasure in her native country.
The pair will face off tomorrow night at the Liverpool Arena.
