Inaugural soccer ball set for August 20

ROCK-The head coach Danny Sanchez and the Colorado Football Team will host the inaugural football as part of the Buffaloes opening weekend festivities.

“We couldn’t be happier to welcome our inaugural football,” Sanchez said. “It will be a fabulous evening. We are really looking forward to meeting our alumni, supporters and the football community at large.”

The dress-up or disguise event is open to all UC supporters and will take place inside the Byron R White Club at Folsom Field on August 20. Registration is $99 per person. The evening will include a sit-down dinner, silent auction and paddle raise, with all proceeds directly impacting Colorado’s football program. The evening will be hosted by CU graduate and 9News anchor Kim Christiansen.

“The Alumni C-Club is delighted to welcome our alumni home football to kick off the 2022 season,” said the C-Club executive director. Kimbirly Orr exclaimed. “We designed The Soccer Ball to perform on opening weekend in hopes of welcoming back alumni from the program’s 26 years as well as season ticket holders and the football community of Colorado.”

All Soccer Ball registrants will receive a ticket to Colorado’s Aug. 21 game against San Diego (1:00 p.m. MT) and a free drink courtesy of C-Club.

“Business owners and restaurants in the Boulder community have been extremely generous with our silent auction,” added Orr. “The addition of the legendary Buff, Kim Christiansen, as emcee is the icing on the cake.”

Colorado football has 22 alumni who played professionally after graduation. Of those 22, 13 have played in the NWSL. Taylor Kornieck, CU’s most recent player to be drafted, was selected No. 3 overall by Orlando Pride, becoming CU’s highest drafted athlete since Chauncey Billups in 1997 (Celtics’ No. 3 of Boston). Kornieck is currently with San Diego Wave FC and in the midst of her first call-up to the United States Women’s National Team.

The quest for a 13th NCAA Tournament appearance begins for the Buffs against Weber State on Aug. 18 (4:00 p.m. MT).
