DS girls ruled out by ranked Lewis Central on the football field | Sports

Taking to the road for their second match of the fledgling season, the Denison-Schleswig Women’s Football team lost 8-0 to a very strong Lewis Central side on Monday night at Council Bluffs.

Lewis Central, qualified for the state tournament in Class 2A a year ago and ranked 10th in that class at the start of the 2022 season, beat Chris Eller’s DS club 40-1, including 25-1 on shots to goal.

“Lewis Central are a fantastic football team. They possess the ball very well because their girls can use both feet and control the ball very well,” Eller commented.

“They have a Division I player in Hana Daoudi, who has scored four goals and shot the ball as hard as most boys I’ve coached or against. She’s a special player,” he added.

DS trailed 4-0 in the first 10 minutes of the game, but the Monarchs then allowed just four more goals in the final 70 minutes of the game.

“Our defensive improvement from start to finish was tremendous,” Eller said.

Roslyn Velasquez played in goal for DS and made 17 saves in total.

“Velasquez had a fantastic game in goal and I could communicate that from our bench,” said the Monarch boss, who said he had a goal for the team ahead of the game.

“It was to play 80 minutes not allowing 10 goals for a strong football team. We achieved that goal and this game will help us become a better defensive team for the rest of the season,” Eller said.

“The girls could have folded after digging a big hole after just 10 minutes, but they competed the whole game. I was very proud of the effort and competitiveness our girls showed tonight,” the Monarch boss said.
